Hoodwinked (2005)

Hi folks,

It's time to talk about an especial cartoon which will provide you a different impressive view of the original story. I am talking about Hoodwinked. If you are a bit curious observing the picture below, you might guess the type of film we would be dealing with. Yes! It is a detective story. 

This film was directed in 2005 by Cory Edwards offering a renewed and modern story based on Little Red Riding Hood maintaining the essence of this popular tale. He decided to include musical scenes, comedy and suspense. Normally, these fairy tales convey a happy ending, but you will have to discover it by watching the film😉. 

The plot of the film relates to a police investigation in order to find out who is stealing some sweet recipes.

Let's see the main differences with the original!

The film starts almost at the end of the original story when little red finds the woolf disguised on her granny's costume. Suddenly, the film converts into a detective investigation of what had happened in the house. 

There is a contrast between the main characters (Little Red, the Granny, the Woolf  and the hunter man) versions.  Both the woolf and the hunter man do not play conventional roles. The woolf relates to a private journalist of investigation and the hunter man is an actor. What is more, the granny practices extreme sports secretly. They argue how all of them have accidentally appeared in the granny's house with no malice intentions. 

There are much more characters involved on the story such as a rabbit who in the end comes to be within all the characters different versions. He then represents the evil attitudes that were supposed to belong to the figure of the woolf. 

Little Red does not seem to be that innocent girl advised by her mother about the dangers outside home. She is willing for freedom far away from being her granny's deliver girl. She even defenses herself from the woolf and hesitates to the police. 

In this story the mother does not appear as it is the grandmother who plays the maternal role and tells her not go alone to the forest.

It is time to talk about one of the most famous film adaptation of Little Red Riding Hood called "Red Riding Hood" and that was resealed in 2011.  Keep reading if you want to know some general information about this movie and the differences I have found between this and the original tale. Did you know that many critics have described it as the "Twilight version" of the original tale? In fact, they are not entirely wrong since both movies were directed by the same person:  Catherine Hardwicke.  Moreover, this similarity can be due to the presence of a love triangle, werewolves and the setting, a village next to some dangerous woods.
